What is it?
ThermScreed ™ is an insulating screed flooring material that combines ultra-lightweight mineral aggregates with a modified cement binder to form a mixture that can be poured and levelled to create a flat, insulated screed underlay. The lightweight pumice and perlite aggregates provide both insulation and structural strength to the screed, making it an ideal choice for applications where a high level of thermal insulation is required.
Pumice is a type of volcanic rock that is characterized by its light weight and high porosity, which gives it excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties. It is a naturally occurring material that is abundant in some parts of the world, making it a sustainable and eco-friendly choice as an insulating aggregate. The pumice aggregate used in ThermScreed is crushed and screened to a uniform size, which helps to ensure a consistent and even distribution of insulation throughout the material.
Once ThermScreed has been laid as an underlay, it is typically finished with a high-strength self-levelling screed or compound that provides the final wearing surface or which then acts as a smooth and level surface for the final flooring material, such as tile, hardwood, or carpet, to provide a finished look and to protect the screed from damage.
ThermScreed is supplied in ready to use 25kg bags and is suitable for DIY as well as professional use. Simply add 10-12 litres of water in a large container and mix with a paddle mix until incorporated before pouring on to a suitably prepared, solid surface (SBR primer mixed with water at a ratio of 1:1 is ideal).
ThermScreed can be laid as a bonded screed (bonded to the existing slab) or as a floating screed (over other insulating materials and membranes) but is not designed to be the final wearing screed.
